To get us excited for two weekends of extraordinary performances, festival directors Raphael Rodan and Sahand Sahebdivani bring together a vibrant variety of artists, each shining in their own way. Expect stories that cut to the truth, piercing spoken word, live music and much more!

Bios:

Raphael Rodan is an award-winning theatre director and storyteller who has been living in the Netherlands since 2012. He studied at the School of Speech and Drama in Harduf, Israel, and at the Actors’ Temple in London. In Israel, he worked as a theatre director with young Arab and Jewish actors, using theatre as a bridge for communication.

Sahand Sahebdivani is the best-known storyteller in the Netherlands. In 2004, he founded the Mezrab, which went on to become one of the world’s leading storytelling venues. Sahand came to the Netherlands as a refugee from the Iran-Iraq War at the age of three. His and his family’s experiences form the basis of his work. This year, Sahand delivered the Anton de Kom Lecture.

Together, Raphael Rodan and Sahand Sahebdivani direct and co-create The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival. They also established the Mezrab Storytelling School, a school that is striving to link the ancient art of storytelling with today’s burning questions.
